FAQs on Shivagange

Can you suggest an itinerary for Shivagange?

Start your day early whether it's for the trek or to visit the temple and reach Shivagange by 9:00 - 10:00 AM. You'll come across a Gopuram (a large pyramidal tower entrance of a temple) and half a km from there you'll reach the foothill. You'll be greeted by a huge Shiva statue at the base which signifies the start of the climb. There are many temples, statues and structures along the way that provide resting points during the climb. The Hill has man-made steps connecting the temples and climbing is sufficiently smooth, and the railings on either side of the route make the climb safe. The distance to the top is about 2 km and takes roughly 2 hours.

Beware of the monkeys as they snatch food from people and even ransack their bags. It's best not to carry any food on the climb. There are food stalls at regular intervals that serve tea, biscuits and light snacks and you can take energy breaks here. The peak i.e. the statue of Nandi - the sacred bull carved out of a monolithic stone, is the risky part of the trek so tread carefully here. Once at the top, take in the scenic beauty that Shivagange has to offer. Start the descent by 2:00 - 2:30 PM and reach the foothill by 4:00 - 5:00 PM and take a bus or auto rickshaw to Dabbaspet or directly to Bangalore city.
