Shelter Island is a part of Long Island. You will have to take a ferry from Greenport to reach Long Island. Shelter Island is famous for its picturesque beaches, serene hiking trails and it serves as a perfect destination away from the city.

Wades beach is clean and family-friendly (with picnic tables available) beach. Ample parking spots are available and the beach area is not so crowded. There aren't many restaurants or food stalls nearby, but ice cream at "Shelter Island Whale's Tale" is a must-try. Lifeguards are always present during the day time and there are many restrooms and showers on the beach. The water is warm with seagrasses and the sand is rocky with plenty of shells. There is also a natural reserve( Mashomack Preserve) near the beach which you can visit for free.
