Jeruk Manis, Lombok Overview

Jeruk Manis is an enchanting waterfall that trickles down the southern slopes of Mount Rinjani. The captivating 40-meter-high waterfall flows into a rocky river. On either side, it lies a thick growth of rainforest vegetation.

In 1983, the people, Pak Muis, belonging to a nearby village, discovered the Jeruk Manis waterfall. An extremely calm place to hang around for the day, Jeruk Manis Waterfall is not only a must-visit for all nature lovers but others as well who look forward to some peace and solace away from their monotonous and fast-paced lives. The literal meaning of the word 'Jeruk Manis', is 'Sweet Lime' in the Indonesian language. Reflecting it's an apt name, Jeruk Manis is a cool, calm, and green place - in fact, one may even call it secluded, to the extent that even the sun’s rays don’t reach here.

Jeruk Manis Trek

To reach the Jeruk Manis Waterfall, you can walk through the sweet rice paddies around Tete Batu. However, the journey does not end at the entrance gate of the waterfall as it located further 1.5 km inside, which is again a fifteen-minute walk. However, the walk to Jeruk Manis is an extremely serene one. There are a number of trees of extremely special kinds along the entire road - Lemuru, Durian, Liuh-Liluh, Bajur, Randu and Lixoura. The flora and fauna of the place are indeed captivating for tourists.

There are three gazebos placed at different distances for people to rest while they walk their way up to the waterfall. From the third gazebo, the entire rainforest can be seen spread out like a green mattress across the entire stretch of land around Jeruk Manis. Once you have reached the waterfall, you can either swim in the small pond right next to it or decide to sit on the rocks that line both the pond and the waterfall, with the relaxing spray of water.

How to Reach Jeruk Manis Waterfall

The Jeruk Manis waterfall is located at Kembung Kuning Village in the Lombok Island, 50 km from the Mataram City. It takes around 2 hours to reach the starting point of the trek to Jeruk Manis. You can hire a taxi or drive up to this point and follow the route through Mataram-Cakranegara-Narmada-Sedau-Mantang-Kopang Terara-Sikur-Masbagik-Kembang Kuniing village.

You can also reach this place by yellow transportation from Mataram Lombok. The route it follows is Mataram to Bertais which costs around RP 3000 per person and from Bertais to Masbagik which again costs some RP 10,000 per person by city transportation. From there, take a motor taxi for the rest of the journey to reach the waterfall.

Tips

1. Since it’s a place amidst the absolute nature, there is no ATM. Carry an ample amount of cash.
2. The rainy season is not the best time to visit the place as it gets slippery.
3. Wearing comfortable clothes for the people who plan to trek and also for others is an absolute necessity as one will spend the whole day here.
4. Carrying mosquito repellents and sunscreens are highly recommended before setting out to Jeruk Manis.
5. Do not pollute this place by any means. Uprooting trees or plucking flowers here is not allowed.
