Payyambalam Beach is quite a popular one. The regional authorities have done an immaculate job at keeping it spick and span. This makes it an ideal destination for many shootings in South Indian feature films. A lot of South Indian film stars can be seen here filming for their upcoming movies, and if you're lucky, you just might get a sneak peek. There is also a restaurant by the beach named Naura Cafeteria which is a celebrity hotspot. Named after Kannur's older name, Naura, this café sees the hustle and bustle of many movie stars that often come here after shoots.

The structure of the 'Mother and child' by Kanai Kunhiraman is one of the leading sculptures in the entire country, and it rests right here at the Payyabalam Beach. Admired by many, this sculpture invites the awe of many locals as well as tourists. You can also indulge in some action-packed adventure activities like water skiing, parasailing and speed boating. All these activities are authorised and regulated by the regional Tourism Council and are extremely safe.

After the adrenaline settles down, you can lounge on the golden sand and stare into the sparkling blue waters. The beach is usually not very crowded, but given its spaciousness and reach, you will always be able to find yourself a cosy, secluded spot. Even though Payyabalam Beach enjoys an amicable climate throughout the year, it is most enjoyable during the winter months. The winter breaks in as soon as September begins to set in and goes on till the last days of February. The temperatures hover around a pleasant 16 degrees Celsius which is the perfect weather for sightseeing and exploration.

The summers arrive in March and last until May. The temperature gets a little warm and humid and ranges between a low of 32 degrees Celsius to a high of whopping 38 degrees Celsius! Kannur experiences a good rainfall each monsoon. These seasonal showers tend to make the water levels of the Arabia Sea quite unpredictable, and hence, the swimming and water sporting activities tend to be a little slacked during this period. Since it's a beach and a public place, there are no specific timings for its opening and closing. However, once it starts getting darker, the local police start patrolling the area and may ask you to leave if it gets too late.

How To Reach Payyambalam Beach

Kannur is easily reachable both by rail and road. The Kannur Main Railway Station lies at a mere distance of 2.7 kms from Payyabalam Beach and sees a good frequency of trains pulling in and out. It is only 10 mins away from the beach, and you can get here by hiring a cab from outside the station.

Cannanore Bus Stand is also very close by and has many government as well as private buses plying in and out quite often.
