Galeri Nasional, Jakarta Overview

Galeri Nasional, or National Gallery, is a hub of modern Indonesian art exhibiting the evolution of Indonesia through art. It has temporary and permanent museums containing more than 1700 artworks. You can visit only on prior reservations, where you are given a 1-hour slot to explore the gallery.

National Gallery of Indonesia has been an eminent cultural institution since its inception in May of 1999. The institution aims to raise public awareness in the field of visual arts through the development and preservation of the artwork in Indonesia. Galeri Nasional also hosts several temporary and travelling exhibitions on its premises and its permanent collection. There is also an open-air cafe where you can sit back and relax after viewing these masterpieces.

Things to Do

Galeri Nasional is home to more than 1770 artworks by both Indonesian and international artists. Some of these notable artists include Affandi, Raden Saleh, Hans Hartung, Sonia Delaunay, Zao Wou Ki, Basuki Abdullah etc. In addition to the artworks and exhibitions, Galeri Nasional also has a Conservation Laboratory to carry on the restoration work. A library and seminar room are also present on the gallery premises. Visitors can also grab a bite at the gallery’s open-air cafe.
