Chinmaya Mission Houston, Houston Overview

Chinmaya Mission Houston was set up in the year 1982 with the goal of spreading the message of Hindu scriptures, including that of Vedanta. The temple organises a set of programs aimed at teaching about the scriptures and spirituality, all of which are focused primarily on families. Every Sunday, the Smrti, a hall, is the site of Satsangas or discourses for adults, which include prayers, invocations, bhajanas and conversations with the Acharyas.

The Bala Vihar classes are meant for children and use games, arts and crafts, stories and other mediums to teach them about Hindu culture, Ramayana, Bhagavatam, unique Bala Vihar alphabets and more. Chinmaya Mission Houston also focuses on teaching Indian languages (like Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati and Telugu) to both adults and children, alongside chanting and yoga. The book store is open every Sunday at the Smrti and sells video tapes, DVDs, texts and more.
