The best time to visit Genting Highlands is June to August and January to February, and July is the driest month of the year. July takes about a third of what falls in November, and those two windows sit either side of Malaysia's two rain peaks.
The month matters less here than anywhere else in the highlands. Genting's temperature moves less than two degrees across the whole year, and almost everything on the mountain is indoors, so only the cable car and the outdoor rides depend on a clear sky.
| Month | High/Low (°C) | Rain |
|---|---|---|
| January | 25°/ 15° | 19 days |
| February | 25°/ 14° | 14 days |
| March | 26°/ 15° | 23 days |
| April | 25°/ 16° | 25 days |
| May | 26°/ 16° | 27 days |
| June | 25°/ 16° | 25 days |
| July | 24°/ 16° | 22 days |
| August | 25°/ 16° | 20 days |
| September | 25°/ 15° | 25 days |
| October | 24°/ 15° | 30 days |
| November | 24°/ 15° | 27 days |
| December | 23°/ 15° | 25 days |
July is the driest month of the year at Genting, taking about a third of what falls in November. June sits just behind it.
This is the window for the Awana SkyWay cable car, when the ride up is more likely to give you a view than to sit inside cloud.
August and September are wetter than July but still workable. Showers are short and the temperature does not move.
Both months are quieter than the school holidays, which matters more here than the rain does, because queue length at the indoor parks is the real variable.
November is the wettest month of the year and October is close behind. Cloud sits on the mountain for long stretches, so the cable car and the outdoor rides lose their point.
The indoor half of Genting is untouched by it. If your dates are fixed, this is the one Malaysian hill station where a wet month costs you very little, unlike the Cameron Highlands. For a dry alternative, Hua Hin in Thailand holds through November.
December is past the November peak but still wet, and it is the busiest month of the year with the year-end holidays filling the hotels.
January is drier and much quieter, and it opens the second-best window of the year.
February and March sit in the trough between Malaysia's two rain peaks. They are drier than the months on either side and comfortably quiet.
Check the Chinese New Year dates for your year before booking February. They fill the hotels and the resort floor regardless of the weather, as do the Batu Caves crowds at Thaipusam.
April and May bring the first of the two rain peaks. Afternoons close in and the mountain is often in cloud from the middle of the day.
Put the outdoor half of the trip in the morning. Treat the cable car as a first-thing-after-breakfast activity rather than an afternoon one.
Genting sits at about 1,865 metres and its temperature moves less than two degrees across the whole year. There is no warm season and no cold one, only a wetter half and a drier half.
Most of the resort is indoors. The casino, Skytropolis, the malls and the hotels work in any weather, so pick your dates on crowds and room rates, and keep the cable car for a clear morning on the way up from Petaling Jaya.
