Songkran, Chiang Mai Overview
Songkran is an annual Thai festival in the Buddhist New Year, marked by a national holiday in Thailand. Locals devote their time in prayer and veneration of the Buddha image, and then engage in water games, bursting firecrackers, and preparing Thai delicacies. Due to the presence of numerous temples in Chiang Mai, many Thais prefer celebrating Songkran here.
