Vande Mataram Memorial, Bhuj Overview

Located at a distance of 10 kms from Bhuj, in the village of Bhujodi in Gujarat, Vande Mataram Memorial is a museum and one of the top tourist attractions in the city. Sprawling over 12 acres of land area, the memorial is built by the Ashapura Foundation to commemorate the most important struggles faced by the Indian soldiers right from the Revolt of 1857 to the Freedom Movement of 1947. It is a tribute to the brave and fearless freedom fighters of India.

The highlight of the complex is the main museum that is designed to replicate the Indian Parliamentary Building. The building is a product of combined input given by architects, historians, sculptors and artists and it took 4 years to be built. It has a total of 17 rooms with several historical depictions from 1600 to 1947 through 4D technique in 17 episodes. The complex also has a park, a magnificent statue of Bharat Mata and a craft park besides several other attractions.

Attractions in the Vande Mataram Memorial Complex

  1. Vande Mataram Memorial - Vande Mataram Memorial is the highlight of the complex which is a museum dedicated to depict Indian history of freedom struggle and to commemorate the soldiers. It highlights the 17 crucial struggles of the freedom movement in 17 separate rooms with 4D projections.
  2. Hiralaxmi Craft Park - Hiralaxmi Craft Park is the vibrant park surrounding the museum that not only offers an open green space to unwind and relax but it also aims to promote and preserve the artwork of Kutch. Spread over 10 acres of land, the park has small stalls selling traditional craftwork made by local craftsmen. These craftsmen are also provided with free meals, boarding and lodging facilities by the foundation. The space also has several swings and slides for young children.
  3. Radha- Krishna Temple- Hiralaxmi Park has a small yet a very pretty temple of Hindu gods Radha and Krishna. In front of the park, there is a quaint pond which further beautifies the ambiance of the park. 
  4. Yellow Fort - Yellow Fort is built in the fashion to replicate the Red Fort in Delhi. It has the very famous Gandhi Ashram, also known as the ‘Selfie Point’ as most people visiting here tend to take selfies owing to the gorgeous decor and skillful architecture. It also has a gallery of the freedom fighters of Gujarat. 
  5. Bharat Mata Idol - The magnificent and magnanimous Bharat Mata Idol is installed in the centre of the memorial complex which draws a major influx of tourists. Known to be one of India’s largest idols, this one is 30 ft.tall, and weighs around 30 tons.
  6. Facade Show - Facade Show is yet another attraction in the complex which is basically a light and sound show which is executed with the help of high- end technology projectors. The programme goes on for 12 min and is held in the open air after dusk.

  1. Auditorium - The complex also houses the grand auditorium that has a seating capacity of 110 viewers. Boasting of a beautiful stage, the auditorium is meant for concerts, conferences and other cultural activities. 
  2. Cafeteria - The quaint cafe in the Vande Mataram Memorial Complex boasts of sumptuous Indian food and is sure to transfer you to the ancient era. With a seating capacity for 80 guests, the cafeteria has a gorgeous decor and gives out royal vibes. 
  3. Parking - Vande Mataram Complex has a proper parking facility available with enough security and ample space.
  4. Lockers - In addition to everything else, there is also a locker facility in Vande Mataram Complex where you can keep your bags and roam around weight- free. These lockers are available for full days.

How to Reach

If you are driving down to the Vande Mataram Memorial from Bhuj, you can take the Anjar - Bhuj Highway, also known as the Madhapar Rd to NH341 that will take you to Bhujodi. Once you see the Bhujodi Bus SStop, you need to turn right to reach Vande Mataram Memorial. Alternatively, the nearest railway station is in Bhuj. Right outside the station you will find auto- rickshaws that can directly take you to the park.
