Smritivan Earthquake Memorial and Museum, located atop Bhujiyo Hill in Bhuj, Gujarat, is a tribute to the resilience of the people affected by the devastating 2001 earthquake. Inaugurated in August 2022, the memorial spans 470 acres, featuring over 13,000 trees—each planted in memory of a victim—and 50 check dams with engraved names, symbolizing remembrance and regeneration . The museum comprises seven thematic blocks: Rebirth, Rediscover, Restore, Rebuild, Rethink, Relive, and Renew, offering immersive exhibits, including a 5D earthquake simulator, to educate visitors on natural disasters and recovery efforts . Recognized globally, Smritivan was honored with the Prix Versailles Award by UNESCO, listing it among the world's most beautiful museums .
