Sky Tower, Auckland Overview

Auckland's Sky Tower can be seen everywhere in the city, soaring towards the heavens. This landmark tower provides some unforgettable views from its observation decks. The Sky Tower is a telecommunications office building with several restaurants and bars on its premises. It is also the tallest in the southern hemisphere.

At the height of 328 metres, Sky Tower is the highest man-made structure in the entire southern hemisphere. The tower is a popular attraction because it gives you a vantage point of the city that you can get otherwise only if you have a helicopter. Moreover, the tower has two adrenaline-rushing activities. The SkyWalk is a walk on a narrow platform encircling the building at about 190 metres high, or if walking is too dull, you can simply jump off, an opportunity provided by the SkyJump (yes, there will be a harness). Apart from these, there are cafes and restaurants on the tower, namely the rotating Orbit 360, the classy Sugar Club and the Sky Cafe.

Restaurants

Reaching into the Auckland horizon, construction of the Sky Tower was completed during 1997. While most of the tower is used as a telecommunications office, serving as Auckland’s primary FM transmitter, a few of the upper floors are open to the general public. The Orbit 360 restaurant, New Zealand’s only revolving restaurant resides on level 52. Guests are treated to a rotating view of Auckland and the Hauraki Gulf as they dine on locally-inspired fare made using farm fresh and local produce. A complimentary trip to the SkyDeck is included with a meal at Orbit 360.

Price: Diners are required to spend a minimum of NZD 30 per person for lunch reservations and NZD 40 for dinner reservations.

The Sugar Club, headed by renowned Kiwi chef, Peter Gordon is another of the many restaurants that occupy floor space at the Sky Tower. Heady blends of worldly cuisine using seasonally available, fresh, local produce are signatures of The Sugar Club. The Sugar Club even offers venues to host wedding parties that ensure that you can even find love 52 stories above ground.

Bars

For those looking to party above the clouds, the uber-cool twentyone bar hosts Auckland’s most sought-after DJs at one of New Zealand’s most premium addresses. Flair bartenders, with their fancy bottle tricks and pouring techniques are sure to wow whichever crowd you decide to roll up with.

If you’re looking for a more laid-back and chilled vibe, Peter Gordon’s Bellota offers the perfect option. The swanky tapas bar serves Iberian and Spanish-influenced fare alongside classic tapas drinks.

SkyWalk

For a truly exhilarating affair, Sky Tower offers the opportunity for people to walk outside the pergola of the building. Oh, and it’s only 192 meters above the ground. SkyJump
