What is the best time to visit Antalya ?

April to October is the best time to visit Antalya, and which part of it you want depends on whether you came to swim or to see the ruins.

To swim: June to October. The sea reaches about 25°C in June, peaks near 29°C in August and is still 25°C in October. April's sea is only about 18°C, so the pretty spring weather comes with water most people will not get into.

To see Perge, Aspendos and the old town: April to May, September to October. July and August average about 35°C by day with no shade at the ruins.

November to March is mild and wet, about 15°C by day with almost no snow, but December is the wettest month of the year. Cheap, grey, and fine for a city-and-ruins trip.

Best Months to Swim in Antalya: June to October

The sea is warm from June to October. It reaches about 25°C in June, 28°C in July, peaks near 29°C in August, and is still about 27°C in September and 25°C in October.

That is a longer beach season than the coast's air temperature suggests, because the Mediterranean holds its heat into autumn. October is the value month: warm water, thinning crowds, prices coming down.

Spring in Antalya: April and May

April and May are the best months for everything except swimming. Days run from the low twenties in April to the mid-twenties in May, the hills are green and the ruins are quiet.

The catch is the water: April's sea is only about 18°C, colder than November's. By late May it is up to about 21°C and swimmable for most people.

Summer in Antalya: July and August

July and August average about 35°C by day and it does not rain at all. The record high is 46°C. This is peak season: the beach resorts are full and rates are at their annual high.

The sea is at its warmest, near 29°C in August. Keep Perge, Aspendos and Termessos for early morning; there is no shade at any of them and midday is punishing.

Autumn in Antalya: September and October

September and October are the best value of the year. Days ease from about 32°C to 27°C, and the sea stays at about 27°C then 25°C, warmer than anything spring offers.

Rain returns in October, the first month since May with any at all. Crowds drop sharply after the first week of September while the water is still summer-warm.

Winter in Antalya: November to March

Antalya's winter is mild and very wet. Days average about 15°C in January, nights about 6°C, and snow is effectively unknown at under one day a year.

December is the wettest month of the year and January second, and nearly all of Antalya’s rain falls between October and March. Prices are at their lowest, the old town is empty, and the sea is about 17°C.
