Dam Square is the most popular town square in Amsterdam. It is the site of the royal palace and hosts several events throughout the year. It is located in the city centre and is flooded with a number of cafes, shops, and restaurants. It also serves as a venue for events, festivals, and performances throughout the year.
This crowded square in Amsterdam was created in the 13th century when a dam was built across the Amstel river. Today, this bustling little space is home to several restaurants, bars, cafes, plenty of shops, and also several events or street performances happening in some part of it or another. Most importantly though, the Royal Palace is situated in the Dam Square. This majestic and iconic building is still used to host official receptions. Also present in this square is the Madam Tussauds wax work museum, and the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church).
