Chaukhtatgyi Buddha Temple, Yangon Overview

Best time to visit

The best time to visit Chaukhtatgyi Buddha Pagoda is early in the morning around sunrise or in the evening around sunset when the weather is pleasant.

What to wear

Women need to cover their shoulder at all times and wear knee-length attire. Sleeveless shirts and shorts are also not allowed for both men and women.

Before entering the temple grounds, you need to remove shoes and socks.

Chaukhtatgyi Buddha Temple History & Significance

Chaukhtatgyi Buddha Pagoda was built in 1907, making it one of the newest temples in the city. Over time, several organisations and the public has contributed in the form of various donations for maintaining the temple. The state is 16-meters wide and has a golden robe. There are 108 Buddhist inscriptions in red and green colours on the feet of the Buddha. They depict the various auspicious characteristics of the Buddha.

There are many small shrines around the image of the Buddha. There are seven pagodas dedicated to each day of the week, and people worship based on the day of their birth. The temple complex also houses monasteries, where many monks reside. Locals offer incense sticks, flowers and gold leaves, and is one of the most visited of the temples.
