Amrabad Tiger Reserve, Telangana Overview

The Amrabad Tiger Reserve is located in the Nagarkurnool and Nalgonda districts in the southern part of Telangana. Spread over 2611.4 square kilometers, it is one of the largest tiger reserves in India. Built in 1987, this establishment was declared as a Project Tiger Reserve in 1993. The Amrabad Tiger Reserve covers a part of the Nallamala Forest and is home to a variety of flora and fauna. It houses exotic species such as sloth bears, leopards, wild dogs, sambar deer, spotted deer, Indian bison, and so on. This place also attracts a lot of birdwatchers as it has over 250 varieties of birds such as painted stork, kingfisher, and Indian peafowl.

October to May is the best time to visit this place as several migratory birds come here during the winter season and the weather remains pleasant so the wildlife is more active as well. It is advisable to not visit during the monsoon season as the park might remain closed sometimes due to heavy rainfall.

How to Reach

The Amrabad Tiger Reserve is located at a distance of 146.5 km from Hyderabad and 271.6 km from Telangana. It takes around 4 hours and 44 minutes to reach the reserve from Telangana and approximately 3 hours from Hyderabad via NH 765. The reserve is well connected to the main city by road, you can hire a taxi or take a bus as per convenience.
