Lake Poway, San Diego Overview

Lake Poway is a recreational area located in the city of Poway in San Diego. Built in 1972, the reservoir formed by the Lake Poway dam is a popular spot for fishing and boating, while the surrounding park is a popular picnic spot.

The lake was initially formed by the reservoir created to supply water to Poway. Thanks to the scenic beauty of the surrounding hillside, recreational facilities were also added to benefit the community. The different species of fish found in the lake include trout, bass, sunfish and bluegill, which are available for year-round fishing. The clear and calm waters of the lake, which is nestled amongst the hills, makes it ideal for boating. Motorized and pedal boating options are available for rent at a nominal price.

The park around the lake is provided with multiple sports facilities. This includes a dedicated archery range and multiple sports courts for various other sports. The park also has a kids playground and various picnic facilities like shelters and barbecue pits, making it ideal for family gatherings and weekends. The hillside also has multiple trails for adventure seekers. This includes the Mount Woodson trail, a challenging 8-mile round trip hike that leads to the summit, with an elevation change of nearly 2000 ft.
