La Jolla, San Diego Overview

La Jolla is a seaside town located along the curved coastline of San Diego. Nicknamed the Jewel City, the town is famous for its beaches with scenic views of the Pacific Ocean. The town is also famous for its rich educational heritage and historic heritage.

La Jolla Shores, which includes Scripps Beach, is home to the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, one of the oldest and largest ocean sciences. Visitors can also take a walk on the Scripps Pier, which offers splendid views of the ocean as well as the surrounding cliffs. At the La Jolla Coves, visitors can enjoy the scenic sunsets and spot a large number of California sea lions resting on the uniquely shaped rocks of the cove. A similar sight can be observed at Children’s Pool Beach, inhabited by Pacific harbor seals.

La Jolla is also home to the Museum of Contemporary Arts San Diego. Established in 1941 at the former waterfront residence of Ellen Browning Scripps, the museum is home to over 3,500 items of American and European art collected after the 1950’s. The Torrey Pines Golf Course is a famous golf course that hosts PGA Tour events such as the annual Farmers Invitational Open and the US Open.
