Paris has an extremely organised and well connected public transport system. You would rarely need to haul a taxi, since the transport facilities are constructed keeping in mind the various places of attractions and sights. This romantic city can also be well explored on foot, so set out and wander off wherever your two feet carry you.
1. Bikes: Paris is increasingly bike friendly, with cycling lanes. Velib bike share scheme provides innumerable bikes to Parisians and visitors from the stations situated all across the city. Hiring a bike entails purchasing a 1 - 7 day subscription by depositing EUR 150.
2. Boats: Batobus operates glassed-in trimarans from nine small piers along the Seine - Beaugrenelle, Eiffel Tower, Muse deOrsay, St-Germain des Pris, Notre Dame, Jardin des Plantes/City de la Mode et du Design, Hotel de Ville, Muse du Louvre and Champs-Elysses.
3. Buses: Operated by RATP, the Paris bus network is well connected with buses plying from 5:30 AM - 8: 30 PM. For night time travel, Noctilien buses are available which run from 12:30 AM to 5:30 AM and link the four main train stations.
4. Taxis: Taxis are available on prior ordering and run on metre with per kilometre charges/ baggage charges etc fixed. Most taxis will not take more than 3 passengers. Uber is also operational here.
5. Train: RATP operates Paris's underground network as well comprising two separate but linked system - Metro and RER Suburban Train Line. The RER is faster, though the stops are further apart. To reach certain attractions the RER tends to be more convenient. It is advisable to get hold of a metro map from the ticket counter. And always ask to get your zones and lines correct! Car/Scooter - Autolib provides an electric share car program similar to Velib. Cars can be hired for 30 minute intervals costing Eur EUR 9.
