Nubra Valley lies in the union territory of Ladakh at a distance of around 140 Km from Leh. Located on the ancient Silk Route, the valley has Shyok and Nubra rivers snaking through it and some beautiful monasteries.

With arid mountains in the backdrop, Hundar in Nubra Valley is famous for the Bactrian camel rides. Bactrian camels are of the rarest sort, having two humps and were the primary source of transportation in the silk route. Diskit Monastery in Nubra Valley is known for the 32 metre Maitreya Buddha statue located near the monastery. There are a lot of activities like ATV rides and ziplining in the Nubra Valley.

The region is currently under military supervision because the road further leads to the Siachen base camp, which happens to be the highest battlefield in the world. Most tourists travel to Nubra Valley from Leh through Khardung La.

Owing to high altitude, and absence of proper rail networks, Nubra Valley is well connected to the rest of India only by roadways. Regular bus services ply to and fro the Nubra Valley in Leh; buses being operated both by private and government owners. There is no direct flight or rail connectivity, however, to Nubra Valley. Leh Rimpochee airport, which is the nearest airport that connects Nubra Valley to the rest of India, is approximately 162 km away from the Nubra Valley. The nearest railway station to Nubra Valley is in Udhampur which is 298 km away from Nubra Valley.

How to reach Nubra Valley by flight

Closest airport is Kushok Bakula Rinpoche airport at Leh at a distance of approximately 120 km. You can hire a jeep or board a bus in order to reach Nubra valley.

How to reach Nubra Valley by road

The main road route to Nubra Valley passes through Khardung La, one of the highest motorable roads in India. The alternate route to Nubra is from Wari La to Sakti (which is east of Khardung La). A lot of the travellers hire a private taxi to reach Nubra Valley from Leh.

Bus services also ply to and fro the city of Nubra Valley from nearby places like Jammu Tawi, Srinagar, Leh. However, there are no regular buses that travel on this route.

How to reach Nubra Valley by train

The closest railway station is Jammu Tawi, 620 km away from Nubra. The other nearest station is Udhampur railway station, 298 km away from the same. One can hire a private taxi or board a bus from Jammu Tawi Railway Station to reach Leh. However, travelling to Leh by train is not recommended as another taxi will have to be hired from Leh to reach Diksit in Nubra Valley. 

Local transport in Nubra Valley

Nubra valley is an isolated spot and that's why it lags behind in transportation front. You can board public buses, but the service is less frequent. People otherwise hire jeeps to travel across the valley. There are chances that you might get stuck waiting for the buses and if you are lucky you could get a lift from the drivers of trucks and military vehicles.

- Don•À_t forget to carry your signed travel permits which are checked by the soldiers in Khardung la pass.
- During the months of November to May, entries to the valley can be done in the morn (Read More)ing of Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. And during this season, most of the roads are closed for repairing on Mondays.
