Beaches, New York City Overview

Location of New York near the Atlantic offers it a ton of beaches. Most of the beaches are free and allow swimming only during lifeguard hours.

The coney island beach at the tip of Brooklyn is more easily accessible than other beaches. It’s a one hour train ride from the city and also has two amusement parks & a New York aquarium nearby. Events like the Mermaid Parade attract lots of tourists. East to Coney Island is Brighton Beach. The Brighton beach is significantly less crowded and offers multiple services and also has a Manhattan beach park nearby. The 6.5 miles of well maintained Jones Beach with is two-mile long boardwalk is the most famous beach among New Yorkers. It features various concerts throughout the summer and the Bethpage Air show at every Memorial Day weekend.
