Intramuros, Manila Overview

A 64 hectare stone citadel, established by the Spanish in 1571. It has survived wars, natural disasters, and waves of colonial invaders.

A historic building constructed by the Spanish colonial government to protect the city from the foreign invaders in the 16th century. This was heavily damaged during the recapturing of the city from the Japanese Imperial Army. After the reconstruction of the wall in 1951, Intramuros was declared as the Historic Monument of Manila.
