Malana, Manali Overview

This village in Kullu, is a bit of shift in the world as we know it. There are around 200-300 stone roof houses sheltering 1500 people in this settlement which is one of its kind.

The place is famous as a 'junkie's haven'. The inhabitants of Malana claim Greek ancestry and speak a language, Kanashi, spoken nowhere else in the world.
The people of Malana are friendly but at the same time, very protective of their heritage. There is long list of do's and dont's for tourists visiting the area including not touching anything in the village. The village follows its own democratic setup with a village council and the head of this council is supposed to be possessed by the spirit of Jamlu Devta - the god they worship.
