Shri Wageshwar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. According to a local legend, a mariner found a Shivalinga while angling. A few days later, the area where the Shivalinga was found was raised, and the land was exposed. The locals thus decided to build a temple and preserve the region's ecology, which often had tigers visiting. Though several tigers were spotted, they never attacked the humans. Hence, the name Wageshwar Temple.
