Tiu Kelep Waterfall, Lombok Overview

The Tiu Kelep Waterfall, along with its counterpart the Sendang Gile Waterfall, are located in the North of Lombok. Located within a walking distance of each other, both waterfalls are visited together with the tourists being charged IDR 10,000 as the entrance fee for visiting both the locations. The waterfalls attract hordes of adventure loving tourists.

It is Tiu Kelep that happens to be the bigger one with visitors having to walk along the river trail in order to get down to the base of the waterfall. The backdrop of the forest makes it a picturesque sight with the tourists choosing to have a relaxing swim at the base of the fall and delighting in the spray of water that hits them. However, the best ting about the Tiu Kelep waterfall is the opportunity of catching a glimpse of a rainbow amidst the cascading water.

Hiking to Tiu Kelep Waterfall

Route
Keeping close to the dirt trail along the river is the best way to reach Tiu Kelep Waterfall, the main attraction of the location. The visitors have to walk through ankle deep water mostly with the rocks in the river bed being extremely slippery. There are quite a few falls experienced by the hikers en route to the destination but there a number of young children eager to help them cross the river trail as well.
The first sight of the waterfall is indeed overwhelming with the tourists being mesmerized by the forceful current of water falling below to the bed and the diagonal streaks that are seen flying out from the cascade in all directions. The rocks are covered with green vines that has the tourists wading through the foliage. The hike ends at the pool beneath the waterfall where the visitors can go swimming even as the force of water hits them straight from the top. It is extremely misty as well with the avid photographers having to cover their lenses to protect them from the sprays of water.

Time Taken
The trail is uphill from Sindan Gila and can take up to 40 minutes or an hour depending on the fitness level of the hikers.

Tips
The path is straight and can be accessed easily without the help of a local guide.
It is advisable for the vistors to wear hiking shoes or flip flops in order to walk through the mud.

Sendang Gile waterfall

This two tiered waterfall is visible from the entrance gate itself and can be reached via the concrete steps leading right down to its base. While most of the visitors choose to climb down to the base, the more adventurous lot try to pass through the waterfall in order to experience the feel of rushing water on their skin. The volume of water is not too much and there is no danger involved in bathing under the cascade of water with the tourists reveling in the gentle motion that is akin to a massage.

Best Time to Visit

The entrance gate to the waterfalls remains open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM every day. Visiting early in the morning is best when it is less crowded with many visitors also eager to catch the spectacular sight of sun rising through the cascading water.

How To Reach Tiu Kelep Waterfall

It is best to hire a private car or a taxi from Lombok island to reach Senaru Village. The usual rates are IDR 300,000 to IDR 400,000 for travelling up to the village. The trekkers choose to walk all the way to the entrance gate while others are welcome to rent scooters, bicycles or even ask the taxi drivers to drop them off at the entrance gate.
