What is the best time to visit Lataguri?

Lataguri experiences a tropical climate owing to its geographical location. Its proximity to the Gorumara National Park in West Bengal makes it a sought after tourist attraction. It is here that one can get a permit to enter the Gorumara National Reserve and the Wildlife Sanctuary at Chapramari located nearby. Since these natural reserves draw tourists in quite a large number, one would conclude that the best time to visit Lataguri is when the rains do not ruin one’s outdoor plans. And the rains really can hamper one’s plans because the region receives heavy rainfall every year. The summer season also is not recommended as the temperature can soar as high as 38°C making it an inappropriate time to venture out. Hence, Winters from December to February are one’s best bet to visit Lataguri. This is when the climate remains moderately cool; the skies are clear and perfect for exploring attractions in and around the quaint little town.

Lataguri in Monsoon (June - October)

The hot and humid climate in the region leads to a full-on monsoon season each year. The rainy season begins in July and lasts till September (sometimes till mid-October). One should expect heavy downpours, mainly between August and September, in this region. The rainfall averages out to around 3100 mm every year affecting tourism to a great extent. The temperature also hovers between 26°C and 31°C, making it quite an uncomfortable, sweaty and damp time of the year. Several attractions are closed and with very little to see, the monsoon season is not recommended to tourists.

An off-beat traveller might find it to be a perfect spot to satisfy their craving for newness and adventure. So would the monsoon lovers. In that case, one can plan a trip at the onset of the season when the rainfall is not as aggressive, and the surrounding is also transforming into a heavenly abode. The enriching natural vegetation and the nourishing rains might prove to be a beautiful experience. Plus, the travel expense also goes down substantially during this time making it quite a budget-friendly option. Nevertheless, one’s safety and health must be on priority. So stacking up on essentials like medicines, raingear, adequate clothing and some emergency money is much recommended.

Lataguri in Summer (March - June)

This tropical part of Lataguri witnesses extreme heat during summers that begin in March and last till June every year. As the season progresses, the mercury level easily shoots up to a sweltering 38°C, making April, May and June the hottest months of the year. The level of humidity also increases substantially. With the unbearable level of heat and humidity, tourists would not be able to make the most of their trip because stepping out in that kind of sun is sure to exhaust everyone. Summers, therefore, are not recommended to tourists. There could be unexpected showers during the season, but the humidity and temperature levels do not drop down. If one has to, they may want to plan a visit in the first couple weeks of March. It is warm all through the day and can be bearable enough to explore maybe the National Park, the Wildlife Sanctuary or go sightseeing around the town.
