Do remember that you wouldn't find any bars next to the beach - the only place where you can buy liquor is a small shop around 4 km south of Kashid (towards Murud). You might find the shop closed because of the Highway Liquor Ban.None of the restaurants next the beach serves alcohol, although a few might allow you to carry your own and drink while eating.

What's Great?

Less crowded beach. Close to Mumbai and other cities like Alibag and Panvel. Pleasant weather throughout the year. More affordable as compared to other beach destinations of India.

What's Not So Great?

Not as happening and lively as Goa's beaches. Limited cafes and restaurants. No beach parties are held.

For Whom?

Kashid is for those people who want to have fun on a beach but at affordable rates. If you like being away from the crowd, then you'd love Kashid. It is the perfect place for the surfers.

How To Reach Kashid

Kashid doesn't have any airport or railway station. The nearest airport is Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport in Mumbai. The nearest railway station is at Panvel.

Kashid has a well-maintained system of roads which connect it to Alibag and consequently to the other major cities of Maharashtra, for eg Mumbai and Pune. MSRTC runs a regular bus service on the route from Alibag to Murud which pass through Kashid. It takes around 1.5-2 hours to reach Kashid by bus.

To reach Kashid from Mumbai, other than during the monsoon season, ferries are the most convenient way to reach Kashid via Alibag. There is a very regular ferry service from Gateway of India to Mandwa jetty and then Alibag, from where you can take the frequent (almost hourly) bus to Kashid from Alibag bus stand.

Kashid is my favourite beach town from Mumbai, and possibly in India. Not only is it convenient to reach from Mumbai - just hop on a ferry from Gateway and take a bus from Alibag and you're there - but it has an amazing stretch of beautiful, white sand which is extremely rare in India. The beach is kept really clean by locals, so except for a few corners, the whole area is kept wonderfully clean. The only negative is that because of the convenient accessibility, the area gets really crowded on weekends - especially long weekends. If possible, try and visit on a weekday, and you'll feel that you've come to a completely different place altogether. There are a few restaurants which serve really good Konkani food, if you like fish/prawns.

- Do not forget to carry sunglasses and sunscreen lotion in summers. Carry insect repellants as well, if possible. Walking on the beach with no agenda is a must - so do carry loose clothes and slippers for the walk.
