History and Architecture of Moti Jheel

The Moti Jheel lake was initially created as a drinking water supply reserve during colonial India by the British. With eventual urbanisation, this lake was further opened as a public area that encouraged relaxation. Moti Jheel was also featured in the Bollywood flick, Bunty aur Babli.

Sited amid the Kanpur Municipal Corporation, the Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital and Kanpur Development Authority, Moti Jheel currently houses a green enclosure and a kids' park. The expanse of this lake and garden is vastly divided into sections such as the Baal Udhyan or the Children's Park, which is a Japanese-styled garden. It requires a small entry price.

How To Reach Moti Jheel

Moti Jheel is located in the centre of Kanpur city on Harsh Nagar Road, about 3 to 4 km from the city centre. This attraction is about 13 to 17 km from Kanpur Airport, which can be reached by a 30-minute drive. The Kanpur Railway Station at Mirpur is approximately 5.8 to 8 km from Moti Jheel and can be covered via an 18 to 25-minute taxi or self-drive.

The City Interstate Bus Station is merely a 10 to 15-minute drive, spotted about 4.2 to 5.7 km from Moti Jheel. The entire city is very well connected by buses and auto-rickshaws. Tourists can also take cabs like Uber to directly reach the spot.
