Vilakazi Street, Johannesburg Overview

Vilakazi Street is one of the most famous and iconic streets in Soweto and Johannesburg, housing many markets and restaurants. Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu used to live here. The café where both of them used to meet is now a favourite among locals.

The street has many beloved restaurants, such as Sakhumzi Restaurant, where you can find a Soweto-style buffet serving traditional South-African dishes. Named after Dr BW Vilakazi, a renowned poet and novelist, the street has the only community television station in the city.
