Fatahillah Museum, Jakarta Overview

The Jakarta History Museum, also known as Fatahillah Museum, is one of the largest museums in Old Jakarta Town. It is filled with more than 23,000 artifacts from the Dutch civilization and various Indonesian kingdoms. It has 27 ornately adorned rooms filled with articles that chronicle the city's history, from when it was founded as Jayakarta to when it was rechristened Batavia and when it became independent.

Museum Sejarah Jakarta is popular for its 17th-century architectural style. It is spread over an area of 1300 square metres and also houses a pond. In addition to the archaeological excavations, Museum Sejarah Jakarta also exhibits stone inscriptions, ceramics and earthenware. History

The building of the Museum Sejarah Jakarta was built in the year 1710. It served as the city hall of Batavia. In 1939, the structure was transformed into the Old Batavia Museum and opened to the public. At the time of independence, it was handed over to the Jakarta Regional Government who began the Jakarta History Museum here in the year 1974.
