Tao Dan Park Bird Cafe
The Bird Cafe at Tao Dan Park throws open its doors to birds and their owners every morning from 6 AM to 9 AM. The owners enjoy showing off their pets to the visitors who gather there to catch a glimpse of the birds and witness the training process. A crowd puller at the park, it was established in 1954. Visitors to the cafe are entranced by the tales of the bird owners who cannot stop showing off their beloved pets, bonding with people over a cup of Vietnamese coffee at the café too. Weekends find numerous bird cages hanging from the hooks placed on the tall trees surrounding the cafe. The tourists enjoy their morning coffee while listening to the chirping of birds.
Tao Dan Park happens to be a place that sees almost all the bird lovers of Saigon reaching the park early in the morning. The birds are carried in cages and encouraged to sing. It is songbirds mostly that are found trilling away merrily. The visitors enthusiastically cheer them with birds of all colors filling the morning air with melody. Nightingales, canaries and tailorbirds are commonly sighted here.
How to Reach Tao Dan Park
Located at 57 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street, Ben Thanh Ward, District 1, Tao Dan Park is a magnificent park full of greenery that serves as the ‘green lung’ of a city polluted by noxious vehicle fumes and smoke from its factories. Situated just behind the Reunification Palace, the park is intersected by the busy Truong Dinh Street. Tourists staying near the city center prefer to walk there via the Ben Thanh Market that happens to be a stone’s throw away from the intersection of Truong Dinh and Nguyen Du Streets. Visitors can also hop on a bus (No. 7 or 12) for VND 300 and get off at the Ben Thanh Station to reach the park. Metered taxis and Xe Oms (motorcycle taxis) are available from the airport as well. The backpackers choose to hire a cyclo at an hourly rate of VND 20,000 for touring the entire city including the park.
