Namje Bazar, Dharan Overview
Namje is a Magar hill village above Dharan at around 1,700 metres, known for its weekly haat bazaar and its community homestays. It is reached by the road through Bhedetar, and the climb is rewarded with views over the Terai plains and, on a clear morning, the eastern Himalaya. Note that this is not Namche Bazaar, the Everest trekking hub in Solukhumbu, which is a different place several hundred kilometres away.
The location is considered as an excellent acclimatization point to adjust to the environmental change as trekkers climb higher altitudes. Those heading to the Everest Base Camp often make a pitstop here. The weekly market that makes it a great attraction for tourists is the Tibetan Market, which is operational only on Saturdays. Here, one can purchase clothing, accessories, décor items, jewellery, etc. at affordable rates.
