History of Klyde Warren Park

The idea of creating a park dates back to 1960s when the Dallas mayor J. Erik Jonsson recessed the freeway. It then got lost with time only to resurface in 2002. It got support from John Bragg, The Real Estate Council, and Texas Capital Bank Founder Jody Grant. The Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation was formed in 2004 which designed and completed the park, and is still the managing authority. The construction began in 2008 and it was opened for public in October 2012.

The park was designed by The Office of James Burnett and Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc., while Bjerke Management Solutions managed the construction. Archer Western was the contractor for deck plaza and McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. constructed rest of the park.

The park gets its name from Kelcy Warren who made the biggest contribution towards the project in the name of his then nine-year-old son. An abode for over 322 trees from 37 native species, this new-age oasis is a wonder in itself. The soil is specially designed to keep be light-weight and the beam and trenches serve as unique planter boxes. It was created with the idea to promote culture and traditions among the people of Dallas and the visitors.
