What is the best time to visit Badrinath?

Badrinath is a cold place where it snows most of the year. However, the best time to visit this holy town is from May to June and again from Mid-September to October when the weather is pleasant (Average day temperature is 18-degree Celcius). July and August are monsoon months and should be avoided as the place is prone to landslides. Winter breaks from November to April, bringing chilly weather touching 5 degrees Celsius. The temple remains closed during these months due to heavy snowfall.

Badrinath in Monsoon (July - August)

Monsoon in Badrinath is from July to August. July experiences cold days and chilly nights which is ideal weather for sightseeing and adventure but heavy rainfall may cause landslides and hinder your journey. August receives occasional rainfall and is one of the warmest months. The temple is usually closed in these months uptill mid of September.

Badrinath in Winter (November - April)

Snowfall begins at the start of November and the roads are closed due to extreme weather conditions and heavy snowfall. All the way to April, the streets are carpeted in snow as the climate reaches sub-zero level. Hence Winters aren't ideal to visit Badrinath.

Badrinath in Autumn (Mid-September - October)

September onwards the temperature starts to drop with intermittent rain, not causing much disruption. The Pilgrimage Yatra resumes by mid-September. The temperature usually ranges from 5 - 15-degree Celcius making it suitable to take the yatra.
