What is the best time to visit Badrinath?

Badrinath is a cold place where it snows most of the year. However, the best time to visit this holy town is from May to June and again from September to October. Summers are here from May to June, a pleasant weather to visit this place. The average temperature is around 18 degrees Celsius. Monsoon falls from July to September with regular rainfalls. Temperature drops down to 15 degrees Celsius and travelling is difficult during this time due to landslides. Winter breaks from October to April, bringing chilly weather touching 5 degrees Celsius. Heavy snowfall can be experienced during this time which blocks roads and makes travelling difficult. The temple remains closed during monsoon as landslides hinder the journey of the pilgrims.

Badrinath in Summer (May-June)

Summers in Badrinath is the most pleasant and ideal time to check off this pilgrimage site off your bucket list. Even though it is summer, make sure that you carry enough woollens to keep yourself warm as the temperature hovers between 18 - 20 degree celcius. The place around this time is usually packed with tourists in large numbers. The good thing is that there is no snowfall around this time to hamper your plans.

Monsoon in Badrinath is from July to September. July experiences cold days and chilly nights which is ideal weather for sightseeing and adventure but heavy rainfall may cause landslides and hinder your journey. August receives occasional rainfall and is one of the warmest months. September onwards the temperature starts to drop with intermittent rain, not causing much disruption. The Pilgrimage Yatra resumes by mid-September. The temperature usually ranges from 5 - 15-degree Celcius hence, you can enjoy the snow at higher altitudes during monsoons too.

Snowfall begins towards the end of October that marks the last month for tourism and pilgrimage in Badrinath. Roads are closed due to extreme weather conditions and heavy snowfall. All the way to April, the streets are carpeted in snow as the climate reaches sub-zero level. Hence Winters aren't ideal to visit Badrinath.
