Vastrapur Lake, Ahmedabad Overview
Vastrapur Lake, in western Ahmedabad, is an old lake that was renovated in 2002. A large statue of the poet-saint Narsinh Mehta was installed here, and the lake was subsequently named after him as the Bhakt Kavi Narasinh Mehta Sarovar. It also has an open-air theatre used for cultural events in the city.
When there was an alarm of the Vastrapur Lake drying up in 2016, the local authorities ensured moving the fish and other aqua life to a safer place. However, many fishes had already died by then. In the year 2019, the AMC (Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation) opened the route for river Narmada to flow into the lake, which was initially only occasional.
