For railway travellers, direct trains are available from Lumding in Assam. Lumding is connected to New Delhi via Brahmaputra mail which also joins UP, Bihar, West Bengal and other parts of Assam. The station is located within a few kilometres from the city centre, so you can easily hire a taxi or auto rickshaw from outside the station to travel to any part of the city.
Paddle rickshaws are the predominant mode of transport within the city. Certain routes also feature auto rickshaws (known as Tempu). Government buses are also available here but at a low frequency. Cabs can be hired by those looking for a day trip.
