South Australian Museum, Adelaide Overview

The South Australian Museum located in North Terrace, Adelaide has a rich collection of cultural remnants and a huge collection of Australian Aboriginal objects. It is a doorway to the natural history of Australia and houses over 3,000 artifacts. The South Australian Museum is a leader in scientific research, Aboriginal heritage and community engagement. The museum has a total of five floors housing 4 million specimens and material cultures. It also features a Humanities Collection, Biological Sciences Collection, Australian Polar Collection and Palaeontology collection.

The Discovery Centre on the first floor provides direct access to collections, visitor information and staff to help with identification and research. There are annual temporary exhibitions like photography and art competitions and summer blockbuster events. The biodiversity gallery showcases marine wildlife with visual features, interactive elements and touchscreens and seeks to inspire curiosity about life on earth. There are many other galleries to explore like Pacific Cultures, Ancient Egyptian Room, Opalised Fossils and Minerals Ediacaran among others. The Museum shop features books, jewelry and other unique gifts. You can end your visit at the Terrace Eatery and Coffee Caravan for delicious café style food.
