Adelaide Zoo, Adelaide Overview
Australia's second-oldest zoo, opened in 1883 and small enough to walk in a morning. It is run by a not-for-profit conservation charity and is the only place in the country with giant pandas, currently Xing Qiu and Yi Lan. Free keeper talks run through the day. It backs onto the Botanic Garden, so the two make one easy outing from North Terrace.
Adelaide Zoo is a 15-minute walk from Adelaide city. Friendly volunteers offer a free walking tour which is a very informative, fun and personalized experience. You can view many indigenous species like the capybara, little penguin, and rhino iguana. At the zoo, you can feed giraffes, hug a koala and encounter meerkats. There are many houses and exhibits like the panda house, reptile house and nocturnal house. You can enjoy a nature playground suitable for all abilities with aerial walkways, climbing structures and water play features. There are dining options available at Wisteria Restaurant and Fig Tree Café.
