Adelaide Arcade, Adelaide Overview
A glass-roofed Victorian shopping arcade from 1885, running between Rundle Mall and Grenfell Street, and still much as it was built: mosaic floor, timber shopfronts, the original clock. The shops are small independents rather than chains, mostly jewellers, tailors and gift stores. It takes ten minutes to walk through and is worth the detour.
The arcade is located between Grenfell Street and Rundle Street. The shopping experience is elegant and charming and you can pick up a brochure about the history and take a free self-guided history tour. You can also visit the arcade’s museum which contains fascinating artifacts of the arcade over time. There are souvenir shops, aboriginal shops, quirky shops dedicated only to hats and buttons, and much more. There are domes at each entrance decorated with the Australian Coat of Arms. Popular cafes and eateries which you can enjoy include Ciao Coffee Bar, Katsumoto Japanese, and Two–Bit Villains after a long day of shopping.
