An hour northeast of Adelaide and the most recognised wine name in the country, built on Shiraz and on old vines that survived phylloxera when most of the world's did not. Penfolds, Yalumba, Henschke and Jacob's Creek all pour here. The German-Silesian settler history shows in the towns, and the palm avenue along Seppeltsfield Road is worth the detour on its own.
