Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort

Hotel is very nicely laid out with lots of greenery. Staff were very polite and helpful (other than the reception staff who made a mess of our room assignment at check-in). The room was spacious but the fridge door could not close tightly and it leaked water all over the floor. It had to get it repaired. The aircon kept stopping after a while and we had get it reset by the maintenance. The all-day restaurant was large but hot and mosquito-infested. The seafood barbecue at Toya restaurant was good, but they should have appliances to deal with the large number of flies and mosquitos which ruined the whole experience. Compliments though to the pastry chef of Kwee Zeen. The breads and croissants were excellent. On the whole, for this pricing, there should be much better options than this hotel.

Hotel is in an area that is secured by a security guard. Nothing around except the beach and the sea. You are captive to the exhorbitant pricing of the restaurants within these confines. While they have an hourly shuttle bus to a group of shops and restaurants outside the secured area, the choices there are also pretty limited. We booked a room that was advertised as one with an "extra large king bed", resort view and "pool view". We could see the resort from our room but the rest were gross exaggerations. The bed was normal size - certainly not "extra-large". The so-called pool view required us to arch our necks over the balcony to see this sliver of water that was more like a drain from the main pool which was nowhere in sight. To add insult to injury, when we checked-in we were assigned a twin-bed room, when our reservation was expressly for a double room with their self-touted "extra-large king bed". The welcome note on the table was even addressed to someone else. We had to wait in this room until another room was made up and ready for us. Food-wise, it was a wretched disappointment. We had our dinner at the Cucina Italian restaurant. It was not cheap and yet, the tagliatelle pasta was served with the strands all stuck together. We then tried the Kwee Zeen all-day dining restaurant. The food was more acceptable for its price-point but it was hot with no aircon and a few ineffective fans. The buffet breakfast was horribly way below the standard of a high-end hotel. The buffet spread was wide enough but some of the dishes were cooked as if just to make up the numbers. A fried seafood noodle, had no visible seafood. The noodles and sausages at the noodle station were rancid. There was no games room. Use of a carrom board had to be booked in advance to set-up (basically, sitting on the floor in a hot pavillion).
