Along with my son and family we were in Kolkata just for 2 days during the second week of March 2026. We had chosen the Get Local tour guide Paulami after going through the reviews about her. She had (Read More) planned our 2 days itinerary giving us a cinematic tour experience. The tour followed a scripted narrative. Paulami was good at storytelling and explaining. We bonded with her very well asking her many questions. Though Paulami changed our route because of the PM's visit to Kolkata that day. we covered all the places in the list. Our cinematic tour experience on day 1 were as follows---(Act 1 ) Where Time Stands Still ----) Kumartuli Potters colony in North Kolkata, which was a long stretch with artisans working on the clay models. Very interesting to watch. they mould the clay into life like statues. Then we spent more than 2 hours at Jorasanko Thakurbari , the ancestral home of Rabindranath Tagore. Act 2) Where Ideas took shape---- College Street. We were amazed to see rows and rows of second hand book shops lined on both the sides of the road. Poulami guided us to the legendry Indian Coffee House which was frequented by freedom fighters and great thinkers of that era. The place was very run down, with wires dangling from every nook and corner, cobwebs hanging low, dilapidated staircase smelly wash rooms and so on. In spite of such a condition tourists throng this place for old time sake where food is served throughout the day. This place is run by the staff since generations. Indeed it was a very unique place to dine out. Now we come to (Act 3) --Quite Power and Compassion------ In this segment it was the Calcutta Police Museum which we had to skip because we spent more time in the earlier visited places. Mother Theresa's House reflected the city's spirit of service and humanity. Act 4) The City of Empire--- We drove past Kolkata GPO, Writer's Building, Dalhousie Square and St. John's Church where we spent almost 2 hours soaking in its story and myths. Passed through St. Paul's Cathedral and made it before 5 pm to the majestic Victoria Memorial to buy the entry tickets. Ticket counter closes at 5pm. Once you are in it is no problem. Went around the huge place marvelling at the beauty and grandeur of this Land Mark iconic memorial. Act 5 ) Where the city finds his Soul------ The traffic was insane moving at a snail's pace because of the rally which had just got over. We literally had to jump out from our car and hop skip and run towards Babu Ghat where the Ganga Aarti unfolds against the illuminated Howrah Bridge. The whole scene was spectacular overwhelming with faith and divinity. After completing the Cinematic city tour Paulmi left. She was efficient in covering the places as planned. We were free to drive past Park Street and go to a highly rated restaurant “ 6 Ballygunge Palace “Tasted some mouth-watering vegetarian Bengali dishes. Back to Taj Bengal for a good rest. 2nd day of the visit was “ Chasing the Sun and Spiritual Kolkata. We skipped the early morning viewing of the Wrestling match practice in the maidan and the Mullick Ghat Flower Market. Stopped over for hot tea at a road side shop, enjoyed the flavoured tea in mud pots and then proceeded to Dakshineswar Kali temple, Belur math , Adyapith temple and then drove to Kalighat to have darshan of the famous Kali Ma. Unbelievable crowd pushing and jostling but we were lucky to go through the maze of people with the help of a priest who was Paulami's friend and had a good darshan of Ma Kali. Then we went to one of the most popular restaurant OH! Calcutta for lunch. The authentic vegetarian Bengali Cuisine was excellent. Then drove back to our hotel to catch the flight to Chennai. It was a memorable and a fabulous visit to Kolkata after 51 years for me. I will certainly say visit Kolkata through "Get Local Tours. As a family each one of us want to thank Paulami for being a very good guide on our short 2 day trip to Kolkata.

This was a great tour. Rishita, my guide was very knowledgeable and friendly and answered all the questions I asked her. The tour itself was very comprehensive, some of the inner streets we visited, I (Read More) would not have seen on my own. A bus ride and a ferry ride was a great plus. Really enjoyed the tour, thank you Rishita.
