Yusmarg is Kashmir with the crowds turned down: a wide, open meadow at 2,400 metres, 47 km southwest of Srinagar, ringed by pine and fir along the Doodh Ganga river. There's no big infrastructure here, just grassland for picnics and pony rides, and trails leading further out toward Tosa Maidan and Sang-e-Safed peak for those who want to keep walking. It's greenest between April and September, before the higher trails close under snow, and remains one of the valley's quieter escapes for travellers who've already done Gulmarg and Pahalgam.
