The main market on Malioboro has been trading since 1758 and is still where the city buys its batik. The ground floor is cloth, printed and hand-drawn, with prices that drop the further back you walk. The upper floors hold jamu herbs, dried goods and food stalls. Bargaining is expected here in a way it is not in the Malioboro shops outside, which is the reason to come in rather than walk past.
