"Twin ninth-century Buddhist temples, a short hop from Prambanan"

Plaosan Temple, Yogyakarta Overview

Plaosan is two almost identical Buddhist temples standing side by side, raised in the ninth century by a Buddhist queen married into the Hindu dynasty that built Prambanan. That mix is the point: the layout and the guardian figures borrow from both traditions. It is a kilometre and a half from Prambanan and takes a fraction of the visitors, which makes it the better place to actually look at the carving.
