Yeoor Hills, Thane, Thane Overview

Famous as the beautiful and quick getaway from the chaos of metropolis, Yeoor hills is located in Upvan, in the Thane district of Mumbai, Maharashtra. The place experiences its first rainfall from the monsoon winds, making the surroundings more vibrant and refreshing.

It is also called Yogi Hills in Mulund and “Mama Bhanja ” mountain is the prominent peak of Yeoor. It is well known for its flora and fauna among the nature lovers for school education trips, walks, treks, and bird watching. It is a buffer zone at the eastern end of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park and is a haven for biodiversity. The area of Yeoor comprises of six traditional villages, having a population of mainly Adivasis (tribals) who earn their living by cutting wood and selling organic fruits, growing rice and fishing in the nearby dam.

Yeoor is famous for its curvy roads, steep slopes and adventurous cycling experiences. Almost throughout the whole year (especially in summer), Yeoor hills is the destination to many school trips, trekking events and family hangouts. One can also contact trekking and nature trail organisers who organise many group trekking and camping events in Yeoor throughout the year.

There are streams, waterfalls, caves in the jungle and Yeoor Hills is very popular among early morning joggers, fitness enthusiasts, and bird-watchers. The place is heaven for all those who are interested in tree-spotting. There's a whole spread of Red Pine, Tamarind, Mango, Amla, Jackfruit, Black Currant, to name a few. There are multiple resting places and food joints scattered throughout the area of Yeoor which offer exotic and memorable eating experience amidst the wondrous trails of nature.

A new butterfly garden has been recently opened in Yeoor Hill beside the lake at the entrance from Tikuji-ni Wadi side and can be in the list of your must-visit sites while taking a stroll around Yeoor.

3.Good grip quality shoes – Must (Please check the soles of your shoes and get them stitched if necessary)

Additional Tips

1. Visiting an outdoor spot comes with responsibilities. Hence be mindful about the trash and ensure the surroundings are clean.
2. Make sure to carry first aid and basic medications since seasonal changes can cause allergies.
3. It is advisable to carry proper tracking stuff, if in case travelling in a group.
4. You may not find any guide to help you navigate through hill, so make sure you have a map with you.
5. The consumption of alcohol in Yeoor hills is prohibited and viable to penalty if violated.

How To Reach Yeoor Hills

Yeoor Hills are well connected to Thane and Thane railway station is about 10 Kms from here. There are two ways of entering Yeoor hills; one is through Upvan lake, lying on Pokhran Road on the way to Pawar Nagar. Also there is another route way up from Tikuji-ni Wadiwhich lies near Hill Garden, 5 – 10 minutes from Pawar Nagar.

Reaching Yeoor takes about 30 minutes from Thane station and there are several ways to complete this journey. There is a bus ‘Patonpada’ which will take you straight up and is the last village at top of Yeoor hill via upvan lake side from Thane station. One can also take Pawar Nagar Bus and get down at Gandhi Nagar and walk down or take a rickshaw to Yeoor Hill. Apart from this 110 number bus from Mulund will take you straight to the entrance of Yeoor.

In order to reach to the other side of Yeoor at Tikuji-ni Wadi side, one can hail Upvan Bus number 10 from Thane Station to Upvan Lake. There is also a bus to Yeoor – Bus no 16 from Thane station.

This place also has entry toll for 4 wheelers and easy access during day time though a controlled area.
