Kelva Beach, Thane Overview

Stretching for a coastline of 7 km along the gorgeous Arabian Sea, Kelva Beach is one of the top weekend getaways in Maharashtra. Line with beautiful Suru trees, the dreamy golden sands of the beach are ideal for sunbathing, lazing or taking long romantic walks. The highlight of the beach is its mesmerizing sunsets that invite a lot of tourists at the spot to witness the spectacular sight when the blue skies are flooded with hues of orange and purple. Aside from the relaxing and rejuvenating, there are several activities available at the beach that you can try your hand at, which include- ATV Ride, Camel Ride, Horse Ride etc.

There are also several attractions around and in the near vicinity to the Kelva Beach, that can be clubbed together for sightseeing. Among the top popular picks are Kelva Fort and Sheetala Devi Temple. It is also not advisable to swim at the beach during low tide as the water gets really deep really quickly and that might pose a life risk. The beach also has several resorts and hotels for both dining and overnight stays.

Places to Visit near Kelwa Beach

  1. Sheetala Devi Temple

    The most popular attraction on the beach is the Sheetala Devi Mandir which is a revered Hindu site. It is believed that Sita’s two sons- Luv and Kush lived here while on exile for the second time. Ever since, it has been an important site of worship.
  2. Forts

    There are three forts on the beach. One of it is situated on the southern tip which gets submerged in the sea water during high tides so you will have to especially visit during low tide if you want to explore this fort. The other one is situated on the northern tip which is surrounded by coniferous trees.

Tips

  1. Do not litter or throw garbage on the beach.
  2. In case you are celebrating a picnic here or carrying your own food, remember to pick up the left overs before your leave.
  3. It is not advisable to swim in the sea during low tide as the water may get too deep too soon.

How to Reach

The nearest airport to the beach is Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport situated in Mumbai. The nearest railway station to Kelva Beach is Palghar. However, there is also a smaller Western Express Railway Line Station called Kelwe Road Station, but not all trains stop here. Local buses also operate on the route. However, if you are driving via Mumbai- Ahmedabad Highway NH8, turn on the Varai - Safale Road, or Manor - Palghar Road. Drive through Palghar and head to Kelva.
