Tangyud Monastery resembles a fortified castle, with tall mud walls and battlements, built on the edge of a deep canyon. It is one of only two monasteries in Spiti belonging to the Sakya sect. Located in Komic village at 4,520 metres, it is one of the highest altitude gompas in India, on the edge of the Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary. Also known as Sakya Tangyud Monastery, it is a popular stop for visitors interested in Buddhism and high-altitude monastery architecture.
