Sakya Tangyud Monastery, Kaza Overview

One of the most sought after attraction in Kaza, the Tangyud Monastery is located in the Komic village of Spiti Valley. At 4520 metres, it one of the highest altitude gompas in India. Also known as Sakya Tangyud Monastery, it is situated on the periphery of the Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary. It serves as an amazing place to learn about Buddhism while surrounded by captivating views.

Architecture of Tangyud Monastery

Sitting on the edge of a deep canyon, the monastery is built in the form of a fortified castle. Adorned with red ochre and white vertical stripes, with a slanting mud wall gives it the appearance of being taller than it actually is. This is one of the only two monasteries belonging to the Sakya sect left in Spiti Valley.
