Thoseghar Falls, Satara Overview

The stunning Thoseghar Falls are located near the village of Thoseghar at a distance of 20 km from the city of Satara in Maharashtra. The Thoseghar Falls are a series of waterfalls with some falls as high as 15-20m, whereas, the highest fall plummeting from a height of 200m.

The picnic area, as well as, the viewing gallery is the perfect platforms to view and enjoy the ambience created by the beautiful falls. At the edge of the viewing platform, the U shaped valley surrounded by green cliffs and cascading waterfalls is in full view. One cannot enter the falls but can reach the starting point of the falls through the Access paths. While hiking through the paths, it is best to be careful to avoid the slippery nature of the terrain during the rains. However, most of the paths are well maintained and offer the best ways to catch sight of the deep gorge and falling waters. The Maharashtra Tourism Department Corporation counter is found at the entrance of the waterfall trails, and you can buy a ticket for Rs. 10 and start walking along the trails.

For bird lovers, Thoseghar Falls are a delightful experience. The sight of scores of birds flying across the waterfalls against the green cliffs is not a rare sight.

Around 15 km from Thoseghar Falls is the Kaas Pathar and Lake also called the valley of flowers. The Kaas plateau abounds in beautiful flora. The Sajjangad Fort is en-route when one is travelling from Pune to Thoseghar Falls. It is also the resting place of Saint Ramdas and is visited by devotees. Chalkewadi is famous for its windmill farms, and one can club a visit to these while taking a trip to Thoseghar Falls.

How To Reach Thoseghar Falls

The Thoseghar Falls is easily accessible via road, including both public and private transport. The falls are located at a distance of 77 km from Mahabaleshwar, 140 km from Pune and 290 km from Mumbai. Regular bus services from Pune to Satara are available. From Satara buses and rickshaws are available to commute to Thoseghar Falls. For those opting for private transport, parking is allowed at Chalkewadi at the newly upgraded and designed parking lot. It takes a walk of around 0.5km from the parking lot to reach the falls.
