Golden Gate Park

The Golden Gate Park is a mammoth urban park in the city, sprawling over an area of more than 1000 acres. It is a park of superb beauty and a plethora of tourist attractions.

The park's sheer size make it unmissable when you're in San Francisco. It was conceived after a need was felt to have a spacious public park like that in New York. The Golden Gate Park is actually larger than the Central Park in New York City. The park is one of the biggest attractions for locals and tourists alike, with more than 13 million visitors every year. It is adorned with several sites of interest, ranging from statues, windmills and museums to natural features like gardens, lakes and a waterfall. The Music Concourse area is frequently used for performances and shows, and around it are several interesting sites like the Japanese Tea Garden and the De Young Museum of Fine Arts. The park also includes a splendid conservatory of flowers, with a huge array of different flowers on display. It's adorned with many small and big lakes to add to the natural aura and even a botanical garden containing more than 7,500 species of plants. On top of that, there are several statues decorating the park and even an ornate carousel. The park is home to several sporting activities as well, such as a polo ground and archery range. It's pavements are full of joggers in the morning and it's gardens of picnicking families during the weekend. The park is an integral part of San Francisco's urban area.
